Van Slater

Van Slater, age 76, of Lawrenceburg, TN passed away Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at his residence. He was a native of Lawrenceburg, TN, retired from Sharp Transport, and a member of Long Branch Church of Christ where he served as an elder and a song leader.  He also enjoyed playing golf.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nathaniel and Ruby Bailey Slater; three sisters, Joyce Hughes, Hulda Horton, and Tharon Ray; and three brothers, J.C. Slater, David "Bud" Slater, and Keith Slater.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Janet Slater of Lawrenceburg, TN; one daughter, Vicky Barber (Mark) of Henderson, TN; three sons, Terry Slater of FL, Phillip Slater of Jasper, AL, and Jeremy Slater of Ethridge, TN; one sister, Janice Appleton (Rex) of St. Joseph, TN; one brother, Sam Slater (Nita) of Lawrenceburg, TN; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, 231 N. Military Avenue, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Friday, September 01, 2023, at Neal Funeral Home.  Graveside services and interment will be conducted at Lawrence County Memorial Gardens at 11:30 AM Friday, September 01, 2023, with Leon Smith and Larry Murdock officiating. The family suggests memorials be made to Long Branch Church of Christ.
