Marvin True Roberts, Sr. Obituary

Marvin True Roberts, Sr., age 89 of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee passed away Thursday, January 9, 2020 at NHC Lawrenceburg.  He was born November 11, 1930 in Pinkney, Tennessee, near Westpoint.  Marvin served in the US Navy onboard the USS Benner and the USS Bessemer, and was honorably discharged in 1950.  Marvin retired from General Motors after thirty years working at the Willow Run Assembly Plant in Ypsilanti, Michigan.  After his retirement, Marvin and his wife, Alice, moved to Sevierville, Tennessee where they lived for 27 years before returning “home” to Lawrenceburg.  Marvin was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and was a member of Meadow View Baptist Church.  He loved spending time with his family.

Marvin was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Roberts; his parents, John Basfield Roberts and Annie Crowder Roberts; his brothers, Jack Roberts, Charles Grady Roberts, Richard Roberts, Paulie Roberts, Chester Roberts, Vanual Roberts, Manuel Roberts; and his sisters, Roby Tittle, Francis Hayes, and Tennie Byrd.

Marvin is survived by his children, two sons, Marvin Roberts, Jr. of Gaines, Michigan and John Roberts (Lisa) of Lawrenceburg, TN; two daughters, Jennie Wood (Rick) of Lawrenceburg, TN and Sharon Kinsey of Taylorsville, NC; ten grandchildren, Lisa Nicholson (Nate) of Brighton, MI, Audrey Paladino (Michael) of Smithville, TN, Mandy Reed (Josh) of New Carlisle, OH, April Carter (Will) of Greensboro, NC, Leslie Holmes of Conover, NC, Alice Parish (Aaron) of Wilmington, NC, John Roberts (Jessie) of Greeneville, TN, Trisha Roberts of Lawrenceburg, TN, Carrie Roberts (Ricky) of Lawrenceburg, TN, and Christina Williams (David) of Greeneville, TN; twenty-four great-grandchildren, Jack and Samuel Nicholson of Brighton, MI, Madison, Ian, Connor, Charlotte, and Lemi Paladino of Smithville, TN, Eli and Miles Reed of New Carlisle, OH, Abigail and Julia Carter of Greensboro, NC, Matthew and Daniel Holmes of Conover, NC, Haley, Anna, Jacob and Aiden Parish of Wilmington, NC, Matthew, Brandon, Devon and Dustin Roberts of Greeneville, TN, Jayce Branch and Harper Grey of Lawrenceburg, TN and Liam Williams of Greeneville, TN.

Marvin is known for his great hair and charming smile.  He loved to treat everyone to a good time and he loved to take his family to Ponderosa for a thick juicy steak.  He liked hunting, fishing, and listening to bluegrass music.  Marvin and Alice loved attending Bluegrass festivals and riding on country roads on a lazy weekend.  Marvin loved Hardee's biscuits and gravy, coconut cake and his dog Joe.  His children and grandchildren will enjoy sharing fond memories and funny stories about their dad/grandpa and he will be dearly missed.

Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, 231 N. Military Avenue, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, January 10, 2020 at Neal Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be conducted at Neal Funeral Home at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 11, 2020, with Bro. Jimmy Nave officiating.  Interment will follow at Bumpas Cemetery in Lawrenceburg, TN with military honors.
