Lawrence Newman Cotter, age 87, of Lawrenceburg, TN passed away Monday, March 30, 2020 at NHC Healthcare of Lawrenceburg. He was a native of Springfield, TN, a graduate of Austin Peay State University and Nashville School of Law, retired CEO and President of Commerce Union Bank, and owner of Cotter Company. Mr. Cotter served as former State of Tennessee assistant commissioner of banking. He was also a member of the Middle Tennessee Cutting Horse Association and Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Lawrenceburg. Mr. Cotter served his country honorably in the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Mattie Hollman Cotter; one grandson, Matthew Cotter; and seven brothers and sisters.
He is survived by wife, Marilyn Lynn Cotter of Lawrenceburg, TN; two daughters, Terrie White (Gilbert) and Julie Cotter, both of Lawrenceburg, TN; three sons, Larry Cotter (Cheryl) of Greenbrier, TN, Matt Cotter (Stacey) of Tullahoma, TN, and John Cotter (Amanda Daniel) of Lawrenceburg, TN; two sisters, Hilda Kohl of Nashville, TN and Angela Rust of FL; four grandchildren, Kristin Lyons (John) of Pensacola, FL, Tyler White (Tiffany) of Lawrenceburg, TN, Brandon Cotter (Annie) of Murfreesboro, TN, and Larry Cotter III of Greenbrier, TN; and two step-grandchildren, Kennedy Butcher and Gavin Butcher, both of Tullahoma, TN.
Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, 231 N. Military Avenue, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and in accordance with Governor Bill Lee’s Executive Order No. 17, a private graveside service was held at Calvary Cemetery.
