Rachel Gray Burroughs died May 28, 2019 at 97 years old. Rachel was born in Loretto, Tennessee, in 1922. She moved to the city of Lawrenceburg in the 1930's where she graduated from Lawrence County High School and went on to attend secretarial school in Nashville. She worked for the United States Government in both Washington D.C. and Newark, New Jersey, during World War II. Afterwards, she returned to Lawrenceburg where she later married Joseph Langford Burroughs on September 26, 1947; and they had two sons, Alan and Jerry Burroughs. She has always been a dedicated mother and worked tirelessly for her family. She worked at Parkes Lumber Company and Union Carbide as a bookkeeper while she raised her family. She is a member of Coleman Memorial United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Gilbert and Benji Sonoma Smith Gray; her husband, Joseph Langford Burroughs; and one son, Jerry Clyde Burroughs.
She is survived by son, Alan Burroughs (Stacy) of Nashville, TN; her daughter-in-law, Kathy Burroughs of Lawrenceburg, TN; as well as three grandchildren, Jessica Murphy (Michael) of Hendersonville, TN, Dawn Burroughs Kane (Jason) of Alexandria, VA, and Dylan Burroughs (Lindsey) of Nashville, TN; and two great-grandchildren, Arianna Murphy and Conrad Murphy.
Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, 231 N. Military Avenue, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
