Welcome to the memorial page for

John Douglas "Doug" Pollock

March 7, 1932 ~ January 11, 2018 (age 85) 85 Years Old

The golden voice of one of God's singers has fallen silent.  John Douglas Pollock finished his earthly life on Thursday, January 11, 2018.  He died peacefully at his home in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee after an extended illness, surrounded by loving family and friends.

Mr. Pollock was born in the family home on South Locust Street in Lawrenceburg on March 7, 1932.  He helped in the family business, Pollock Tire Company, through his youth and teenage years.  He attended Lawrence County High School, where he excelled in athletics, particularly football.  He graduated in 1949 and attended Freed Hardeman University,  David Lipscomb University, and Middle Tennessee State University.  He then enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he had assignments in England and Greenland.  He became quite proficient in electronics, and when he left the military service, he used these skills in his civilian life.  He worked for Teledyne and Union Carbide for many years, and he later taught at various vocational schools in the area.  Mr. Pollock was a faithful member of the First Street Church of Christ in Lawrenceburg at the time of his death.  He loved to sing, and he was called upon frequently to lead the singing in the churches he attended through the years.  His sweet voice will be missed by those who admired his abilities.

"Doug" as his family and friends called him, was a wonderful, devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.  He was a wonderful storyteller, having a marvelous recall of people, places, and events.  He served as the family historian, meticulously researching genealogical records.  He was hilariously funny and lit up the room wherever he was.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Randolph Robertson and Willie Ida Lynch Pollock; his first wife, Patty Flippo Pollock; one sister, Sarah Edwards; brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Fran Pollock; and his brother-in-law, Milas Flippo.

Doug is survived by his wife, Ann Hamby Pollock.  He is also survived by his daughters, Janey Hickman (Jimmy), Jill Ashworth, Julie Gillen (Bruce), Jackie Hamby Kelly (Tim), a son, Bobby Kenneth Hamby (Lee), and daughters, Gayla Hamby Glass and Wendy Hamby Ulewicz (Nathan); a sister, Martha Ann Pollock Porter (Delton), brother-in-law, Ronald E. Edwards, and sister-in-law, Velta Flippo, as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, 231 N.
