Roy McDougal Ledbetter

Roy McDougal Ledbetter, age 84, of Lawrenceburg, TN, passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2020 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro, TN. Roy was born on June 29, 1935 in Savannah, TN.

Roy was a 1955 graduate of Hardin County High School in Savannah, TN. He attended East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, TN. He graduated from University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy in Memphis, TN in 1960. As an active Pharmacist for 60 years, he spent 52 years practicing in Florence, Alabama and Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. He was owner of Ledbetter Drug Company in Lawrenceburg since 1973.  Mr. Ledbetter served his country honorably in the TN Army National Guard.

Roy enjoyed serving the people of Lawrence County and  was active in the community. He was a member of First United Methodist Church where he  enjoyed ushering and was a member of the Aldersgate Sunday School Class. He was also a member of the Tennessee Pharmacist Association,  past member of the Lions Club, and past president of the Evening Lions Club.  Roy enjoyed squirrel hunting and was an avid skeet shooter with his boys.  

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, James L. and Agnes McDougal Ledbetter; two sisters, Willa Kate Williams and Anna Mary Byram; and four brothers, Joe Neil Ledbetter, Jim Ledbetter, Sidney Ledbetter, and Edwin Ledbetter.

He is survived by his wife of 49 ½ years, Linda Kay Scott Ledbetter; two sons, Scott McDougal Ledbetter (Connie) of Lebanon, TN and Neal Stewart Ledbetter of Lawrenceburg, TN; one daughter, Jeanie Ledbetter Godbey (Steven) of Murfreesboro, TN; three grandchildren, Wyatt Koch, Cooper Godbey, and Riley Godbey; one brother, Alex Ledbetter (Mary Ruth) of Waynesboro, VA; several nieces and nephews. He was always especially proud of being the youngest of eight children.

Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, 231 N. Military Avenue, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, February 03, 2020 at Neal Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be conducted at First United Methodist Church at 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 04, 2020, with Ed Trimmer officiating.  Mr. Ledbetter will lie in state at the church from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.  Graveside committal service will follow at 1:30 PM at Savannah Cemetery in Savannah, TN with full military honors.  Family suggests memorials be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
