Virginia Maxine Alley, age 82, of Lawrenceburg, TN passed away Friday, October 14, 2016 at Southern TN Regional Health System Lawrenceburg following a long illness.

She leaves her husband of 67 years, Carmon Pate Alley; three daughters, Frances Porch (Joe), Faye Lanning (Chuck), and Renee Carter. Seven grandchildren, Derek Porch, Andrea Porch Herbert, Ali Lanning Triplett, Becky Lanning Greer, Chase Lanning, Chad Lanning, and Hannah Carter Hillegas; and sixteen great-grandchildren also survive Mrs. Alley.

She leaves behind three sisters, Eleanor Gobbell, Tessie Belle Byrd, and Glenda Gallaher; as well as nieces and nephews. Mrs. Alley was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Ludy Thomas; and brother, James Thomas.

Mrs. Alley was employed by Kay Windsor Clothing Company, Revco Drug Company, and Edwards Oil Company.  She was a long time member of Deerfield Baptist Church and sang with the Melodaires. Later she was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Lawrenceburg, TN, continuing her love of music, singing in the choir.  Her hobbies were sewing, gardening, and cooking. She was an avid supporter of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN. The family requests donations be made to St. Jude in lieu of flowers.

Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, 231 N. Military Avenue, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Neal Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be conducted at Neal Funeral Home at 3:00 PM Sunday, October 16, 2016, with David Gallaher officiating.  Interment will follow at Deerfield Cemetery in Lawrenceburg, TN.
